Art studio in The Hague

Sofia Kapnissi

About

Sofia Kapnissi (Athens, 1966) studied painting and printing at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and later in the Netherlands at the Free Academy of Visual Arts of The Hague. She is co-founder of the artists’ group Gaidaro and of the art platform “geborgen kamers” (secured/ hidden rooms) which from 1999 to 2008 presented projects advocating for wide participation in the art practice and presentation. Painting is her main medium and reference point; her work expands to video, textile, and text; and engraving of course. In 2017 she created the project ik-snap-er-niks-van in the form of a webshop.
