Sand paper on feminine power
Sand paper tied to hand made paper, forgrounding labour and craft in art.
In the studio we use our domestic resources. What’s that? In this case, sandpaper—typically associated with manual labour rather than fine art—becomes both a material and a carrier of expression. This rough paper is naturally scratched, torn, or coloured, during casual preparatory work in the studio. Then it switches purpose and is used as language—eventually bound to more common materials. It conveys the recorded time and labour, both weights experienced in full by women. The expressive form gives emphasis on feminine power, an intelligent power that allows fragility to be visible.
As a result, these works’ material tag is:
Sand paper and ink drawing on handmade paper; other materials: cotton paper, book binding tape, faux fur, embroidery.
